About Us
What is happiness and peace to you? Buddhism is a way of life and philosophy that has helped to make the lives of many people more fulfilling. Everyone can benefit from it in a substantial yet unique way.
The Buddhist society aims to act as a platform for you to find outmore about Buddhism through discussions, Dharma talks, meditation, etc… If you are interested in reading, we also provide free Buddhist books and CDs. Furthermore we organise retreats and temple visits for you to get a further experience and feel of Buddhism which has interested many people recently.
We have voluntary work, interfaith forum and vegetarian dinner jointly with ULUBUDA (ULU Buddhist Association) which is a great way to meet people from other colleges of London including UCL, Kings and SOAS. The restaurants chosen provides vegetarian cuisine, which is the way of eating Buddhism encourage us to live by.
Aim
- To serve as a starting point for students and staff of Imperial College who are interested to explore and to learn about the teachings of the Buddha.
- To provide a place to engage in academic and philosophical discussions on Buddhism regardless of race or creed.
- To advise persons interested in Buddhist studies and self-cultivation to the appropriate places of higher learning.
- To provide support for practicing Buddhists in Imperial College through activities such as group meditation, public talks and Sutra reading groups.
To Achieve this Aims
We plan to achieve this in 3 ways. Firstly, we will coordinate our activities with the University of London Buddhist Association (ULUBUDA), which will act as an umbrella organization with which to conduct joint events. ULUBUDA has recently one the best New ULU Club and Society award for 2003 and organizes a range of activities very much in line with what we intend to do. Additionally many of the proposed committee members for ICBS are also on the committee at ULUBUDA.
Secondly, after the initial recruitment during the IC fresher’s fair, we intend to make bookings during the evenings on Wednesdays to arrange discussions and meditations. Information about the meetings will be disseminated by email to our members and poster advertisements.
Thirdly, as individuals the committee members have affiliations with Buddhist organizations around London, such as the London Vihara, Fo Guang Temple and Jamyang Tibetan Buddhist Centre. Through our affiliations we would be able to invite speakers for public talks, refer interested individuals, make visits and participate in their activities.
